ISO 37001:2025 Awareness Training Course
The ISO 37001:2025 Awareness Training Course is a PowerPoint presentation for introducing staff to the ISO 37001 anti-bribery management system (ABMS) standard. It opens with what ISO 37001 is and what the 2025 edition added, sets out the harmonised structure, then works through clauses 4 to 10 in plain terms, referenced to the clause number, from the bribery risk assessment and anti-bribery policy to due diligence, raising concerns and review by the anti-bribery function.
The course supports ISO 37001 clause 7.3 Awareness, which requires personnel to be aware of the anti-bribery policy and their duty to comply, the damage bribery can cause, and how to recognise and report offers of bribes. It also gives managers a clause by clause overview before implementation or an internal audit. The ISO 37001:2016 version of the course is also included.

- What is ISO 37001 - the standard for the requirements of an anti-bribery management system, first published in 2016, the 2025 edition with anti-bribery culture, climate change and expanded conflicts of interest, and the types of organisation that can adopt it
- Harmonized Structure - the clause headings and sub-clauses, including those specific to anti-bribery such as due diligence, gifts and hospitality, raising concerns, investigating bribery and review by the anti-bribery function
- Clauses 1, 2 and 3 - scope, normative references and terms and definitions, which contain no auditable requirements, so conformity is demonstrated against clauses 4 to 10
- Clause 4 Context of the Organisation - issues including whether climate change is relevant, interested parties, a scope that takes the bribery risk assessment into account, and the bribery risk assessment itself (4.5), reviewed periodically and after significant changes
- Clause 5 Leadership - leadership and commitment including an anti-bribery culture (5.1.3), what the anti-bribery policy must do, the anti-bribery function and its independence, and controls on delegated decisions with more than a low bribery risk
- Clause 6 Planning - actions to address bribery risks and opportunities for improvement, anti-bribery objectives and the plans to achieve them, including who will impose sanctions or penalties, and planning of changes (6.3)
- Clause 7 Support - resources, competence, the employment process for all personnel and for positions with more than a low bribery risk (7.2.2), awareness, communication and control of documented information
- Clause 8 Operation - operational planning and control, due diligence, financial and non-financial controls, controlled organisations and business associates, anti-bribery commitments, gifts and hospitality, inadequate controls, raising concerns and investigating bribery (8.1 to 8.10)
- Clause 9 Performance Evaluation - monitoring and evaluating anti-bribery performance, internal audits that check for bribery and breaches of the ABMS, management review and reporting to the governing body, and review by the anti-bribery function (9.4)
- Clause 10 Improvement - continual improvement of the ABMS and dealing with nonconformities, from controlling and correcting them to eliminating the causes, reviewing the effectiveness of action and keeping records
Who Needs an ISO 37001 Awareness Course?
Any organisation implementing or maintaining an ISO 37001 anti-bribery management system needs its people to understand what the standard asks of them and how to recognise and report bribery. The course suits small and medium sized businesses, larger companies, not-for-profit organisations and charities running their own awareness sessions for new starters, existing staff and managers without an outside trainer. It also works as a refresher before an internal or external audit, or as a briefing for the anti-bribery function.

Anti-Bribery Controls in Operation
The slides on Clause 8 set out the controls that put the policy into practice day to day: due diligence where the bribery risk is more than low, financial controls such as approval limits and segregation of duties, commitments from business associates, procedures for gifts and hospitality, when to withdraw from a relationship, anonymous reporting without retaliation, and confidential investigations reported to the anti-bribery function.
